3. Physical & Chemical Properties

ItemDetails
AppearanceColorless to pale yellow liquid
Solubility in SolventsMiscible in most organic solvents
Solubility in WaterDecomposes quickly
StabilityHighly reactive, moisture-sensitive; decomposes on contact with water

4. Applications

  • Reaction Catalyst: Lewis acid catalyst for esterification, transesterification, condensation and addition reactions; Ziegler-Natta catalyst for polymerizations (polyester, plasticizer, polyurethane production)
  • Coatings: Enhances surface hardness, adhesion, scratch resistance; provides coloring effects, light reflection, iridescence, and corrosion resistance
  • Paint Additive: Cross-links -OH functional polymers/binders, promotes adhesion, acts as a binder
  • TiO₂ Pigments & Films: Forms micro/nano-scale TiO₂ pigments; creates polymeric TiO₂ films via pyrolytic or hydrolytic (sol-gel) processes

5. Handling and Usage

  • Formulate with other ingredients in catalysis, cross-linking, or paint applications; add as the last ingredient to prevent undesired pre-reactions with water
  • For adhesion promotion/surface modification, apply as a primer from dilute solution
  • In coating applications, form thin polymeric TiO₂ layers via thermal or hydrolytic processes
  • In sol-gel applications, total/partial hydrolysis (with other metal alkoxides) yields metal oxide systems for binders/coatings

6. Packaging & Storage

  • Packaging: 25kg or 200kg drum
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area, tightly sealed to prevent moisture exposure
  • Shelf Life: 2 years under proper storage conditions

7. Safety & Handling

  • Hazard Classification: Flammable liquid; moisture-sensitive; irritant to skin, eyes, and respiratory tract
  • Recommended PPE: Safety goggles, chemical-resistant gloves, and protective clothing
  • Precautions: Use in well-ventilated areas; avoid contact with water/moisture; keep away from heat sources and incompatible materials
  • For complete safety information, refer to the current Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

8. Test Methods

  • TiO₂ Content: Gravimetric analysis
  • Density: Hydrometer/pycnometer method
  • Flash Point: Closed cup method
  • Appearance/Color: Visual inspection
